Abstract
The Expanded Fatal Accident Statistics (EFAS) in Denmark was established in 2009 as a three
year pilot project. The project’s aim was to improve knowledge of why the fatal accidents happen as
an addition to the Road Directorate accident statistics and to improve efforts to prevent these types
of accidents from happening.
At this stage the 3-years statistics have been analysed and reported annually and various thematic
reports have been published.
This paper will describe lesson learnt after 3 years from the EFAS study as well as the outcome of
the evaluation conducted by the Institute of Transport Economics in Norway.
