Abstract

Approximately 180 traffic accidents involving electric powered wheelchairs occur annually in Japan.
However, accident reconstruction techniques for wheelchairs have not been developed. Therefore, we
focused on the relationship between vehicle speed at collision and wheelchair travel distance after
collision for vehicle speed estimation. Simulation models were created on PC-Crash based on physical
crash tests. The vehicle speed parameter was varied to understand speed estimation for traffic accident
reconstruction. The relationship between bullet vehicle speed and wheelchair travel distance was
defined according to the kinetic energy equation.
