Abstract
This paper deals with use of modern photogrammetric techniques for spatial reconstruction of traffic
accident sites. The aim is to enable ex-post measurements and localization of important features within
the accident site for the purposes of forensic analysis. The paper gives an overview of the practical
aspects of workflow with the photographic documentation acquired by the Police of the Czech Republic,
in particular with respect to the subsequent photogrammetric processing and achievable outcomes.
The image-based spatial reconstruction is shown on two real accident cases assessed by the Department
of Forensic Experts in Transportation. For each case are presented overall characteristics, general
procedures of spatial reconstruction and resulting outputs together with their practical use. Lastly, the
potential and limitations of automated point cloud extraction for transportation forensic practice are concluded.
